The Day The Distance Did Us In

The Day The Distance Did Us In

Before the web we wove we were more whole,
We were more folded into the higher way home,
We were more hopelessly romantic to the bone,
More helplessly unplanned and unscripted tomes …

Some say it was always like this things just change,
Some say it was never the same the days we wasted,
Warlords and pawns alike all know the cost of waiting,
For one more word one more world is all we’re fated,

The day the distance did us in we were still winning,
The day our fortunes turned we were still yet drifting,
The day the former fields of fidelity fell out of our favor,
Were the times we whistled into the winds less paydirt.

You were standing there and I was still staying over here,
You were so close tonight yet tomorrow gone off over fears,
Soon smothered by the proximity of another heart in tears,
So serious are those little moments we utter never a word,

This bridge we trust just as soon to cross as to have to jump,
Somedays stretches so long it’s hard to see one another yonder,
Under wonder what was really meant by losing grip of rudders,
We steered ourselves right apart just by forgetting each other,

The day the distance did us in we were still winning,
The day our fortunes turned we were still yet drifting,
The day the former fields of fidelity fell out of our favor,
Were the times we whistled into the winds less paydirt.
